At Woodrush we place a great emphasis on the value of our community within school and with links outside of our physical boundaries. This is a two way process where we promote student engagement within the local, national and global community, whilst also creating exciting opportunities for external sources of expertise to come into school to enrich our community. Additionally, many of our programmes will ultimately link to academic and vocational progress and employability opportunities and career pathways.
Student engagement
Student adoption of Wythall Train station – exciting projects include, planting, artwork, Horticulture qualifications, establishment of a community Hub (transforming the old ticket office).
Equality and Diversity forum – half termly meetings to share experiences and to recommend whole school improvements.
British Council – partner school with schools in Sierra Leone.
Attendance at annual service of Remembrance in November and Holocaust Memorial service in January.
Sustainability City and Guilds Award – Year 9 students learn about local and regional Sustainability projects in an extra curricular qualification.
Parent Volunteers
Numeracy and Literacy support – focus on 30 minute support sessions for Year 7 students to gain confidence and develop foundation skills in both Numeracy and Literacy.
Train station Gardening – Parents often help out with general gardening and watering of plants at our adopted local train station.
Careers and Woodrush 6th – Several parents regularly support Careers days in school and support with mock interviews and personalised career guidance from their own experience.
