About Regional Hub Teacher Training (formerly School Direct)

Join Woodrush TC’s Regional Hub for Exceptional Teacher Training

Woodrush TC is proud to be a Regional Hub, with Woodrush as the lead school. As part of this unique training route (formerly School Direct), you’ll be integrated into a supportive team from the start, receiving intensive guidance from experienced teachers and mentors. You’ll never feel unsupported; our approach begins with small sections of lessons and builds to full lessons, ensuring you’re supported every step of the way.

Why Choose the Regional Hub Route?

One of the key advantages of applying to a Regional Hub is the certainty of knowing which schools you will be placed at, with some cases offering clarity on the exact school. This allows you the opportunity, should you wish, to visit the school or department before your course begins, meet the team, observe lessons, and settle in quickly—all designed to ease any nerves. However, this is entirely optional and dependent on your personal commitments.

While the academic rigor mirrors that of university-led courses, you will benefit from subject-specific sessions and the full university experience, including assignments, training days, and some whole weeks at university. You’ll also have access to financial support, including eligibility for the training bursary or scholarship, and application for student loans. Your interview will be conducted by Woodrush as the lead school, with potential participation from partner schools or universities.

Ongoing Support and Career Development

As part of our Regional Hub, you’re not just a trainee—you’re part of the Woodrush family. From the first day through to your National Professional Qualifications, we support you in both your achievements and challenges. Many of our trainees become alumni, continuing their journey with us through the Early Career Framework or by returning as mentors.

Comprehensive Training and Support from Day One

The lead school, Woodrush, takes responsibility for recruiting and interviewing candidates, and coordinates the delivery of your in-school training. Throughout the process, Sam Bullivant, Woodrush TC Director and ITT Lead, will be your main point of contact. She will be with you from your initial interview, providing tutorials and conducting teaching visits, all the way through to congratulating you on achieving QTS.

Our quality assurance process, involving both the lead school and partner universities, ensures that all aspects of the course and placements maintain the highest standards of training.

Opportunities with Our Partner Schools

A unique strength of our Regional Hub route is the strong potential for employment within our partner schools. Many of our trainees are offered positions in the schools where they were placed, or within our partner consortium schools, providing a seamless transition into your teaching career.
